The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, has emphasised the importance of Performance Management Systems (PMS) in enhancing effective service delivery and national growth.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Amb. Nura Rimi, said this at the Inauguration of the ministry’s PMS Day on Thursday in Abuja.
“Today, we officially institutionalise our PMS and inaugurate the PMS day. This achievement is a testament to our collective efforts to enhance our ministry’s performance and contribute to the nation’s growth.
” Our ministry has embraced this vision by inaugurating PMS departmental champions and organising a management retreat, which led to the successful cascading of the MPMS.
“I extend my gratitude to the Head of Service, ably represented by the Permanent Secretary (CMO), for her unwavering support and presence at this ceremony.
“Your commitment to our ministry’s progress is invaluable,” he said.
The permanent secretary commended the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for her visionary leadership in transforming the Service into a world-class institution.
According to him, her implementation of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan has inspired the ministry to strive for excellence.
Speaking on the shift from traditional performance assessments, the permanent secretary said that the PMS was not about examinations, but a scientific and empirical approach to performance evaluation.
Rimi reflected on the past system, where favoritism influenced scores, and assured attendees that the new PMS would foster fairness and meritocracy.
He urged directors and staff to support one another in their pursuit of excellence, reiterating the importance of collaboration in achieving the ministry’s goals.
The permanent secretary commended the Director of PMS and his team for their dedication, while urging all the staff members to continue striving for excellence.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Livestock Development, Dr Chinyere Akujobi, commended the management of the ministry for taking the initiative to inaugurate the PMS.
Akujobi, the Team Lead, PMS War Room, Office of the Head of Civil Service, said that the department’s mandate was to ensure that MDAs institutionalised and inaugurated PMS in their agency.
“I am very happy to see this happening in the ministry today, and I can assure you that the Head of Service is also very happy because she is very passionate about this,” she said.
Akujobi, urged members to embrace the PMS as it was a support system that would help them become better officers.
