The new President of Rotary Club of Abuja, Central Business District (CBD), Rotarian Lauratu Yenwan, says the club is set and will focus on education and eradication or Polio during her tenure.
Yenwan stated this in her speech shortly after her investiture, and fund raising for club project and award in Abuja.
The event with the theme, “Uniting for Good: Building a enter World, One Community at a Time” was organised by the club.
According to Yenwan, will want to give a beffitng environment for children to acquire education at Gidan Gimba Village, an adopted community in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
“My first priority is to educate the younger ones to become leaders of tomorrow. And also to end polio, because, if we don’t have healthy children, the environment will not be healthy.
“So, we are going to focus on Polio eradication. In addition, we will empower women and take ourselves to a greater height by celebrating ourselves as members of Rotary Club Abuja CBD.
“I want to call on the past presidents of the club to come together, join hands towards achieving the goals of the club, because the club comprise of like minds.
“On funding, we have started here, and we are going to continue. We will solicit from family, friend and other good spirited individuals and organisations, “Yenwan said.
Also speaking, the District Governor, District 9127, Dr Joy Okoro, represented by the District Coordinator of Zone 1, Rotarian Kenny Okorie said she expected Yenwan to focus on foundation, eradication of Polio and membership drive.
According to Okoro, the club hopes to adopt more communities so has to provide them with boreholes for portable drinking water, healthcare facilities and many more.
Similarly, the immediate past president of the club, Rotarian Kate Adamu pledged to be there for Yenwan and supporting her to excel as the 9th president of the club.
Adamu explained that she would cherished all that she did during her one year reign, because they were works for humanity.
“The signage, public image, school children, friendship among members and many others are works we did, all for humanity. I love to make people work together”.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Investiture Committee, Rotarian Maxwell Amuchie who was the sixth president of the club, said the event is the celebration of rotary and service of excellence.
“The Rotary Club of Abuja CBD is made up of vibrant people who are committed to the motto of the club.
“Year after year, we involve in different projects at Gidan Giba Village. These include cash grant, immunisation, drilling of boreholes for the community, skill acquisition and empowerment.
“The incoming presidenthas decided that she is going to complete the school project at Gidan Gimba Village,” Amuchie said.
Meanwhile, the guest speaker, Mr Paddy Ezeala, said there is strength in unity, adding that when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things could be achieved.
Ezeala also talked about the challenges in Nigeria, but said that there are solutions through taking of meaningful actions from the community level, true patriotism and charity.
“The truth is, we don’t need perfecy co dictionary to make a difference, we simply need to care enough, act, give, serve and to love”.
